Honestly, if Fallout 3 works for you out-of-the-box and you don't really need any mods to enjoy the game, more power to you. Fallout: New Vegas also has a much more active modding scene, and most all mods are compatible with Tale of Two Wastelands, as well. They're typically not optimized too well, and a bunch of performance tweaks, enhancements, and fixes that have been designed for Fallout: New Vegas aren't compatible with Fallout 3. Most of the mods available for Fallout 3 are unsupported and outdated, and probably have a higher chance of breaking things than adding anything substantial to the game - they were built before there was a known "process", for lack of better words. The Steam version of Fallout 3 was never updated to fix these issues, but the GOG version supposedly works out of the box.įallout: New Vegas also has more mods. There's a bajillion tutorials out there to "fix" Fallout 3, but most of them are outdated and the rest are a shot in the dark - some work, some don't, different fixes work on different setups. Fallout 3 is a clusterfuck on modern computers good luck getting it to load, and if you DO manage to get it to load, good luck getting it to not crash. The base TTW mod isn't too buggy, anyway. It's no longer being worked on, hasn't been worked on for a year or two, and the latest version actually introduces other bugs after fixing others. I wouldn't advise using the Tale of Two Wastelands Unofficial Patch, tbh. Again, that's also available on the TTW forums, and what's nice about it is that it ties in to being shot in the head at the beginning of Fallout: New Vegas. "Difficult Journey" is useful for not having such a ridiculous advantage when you eventually travel to the Mojave - the higher your level, the heavier the nerf that your character takes, at least temporarily. The Lone Courier, which is available on the TTW forums, adjusts dialogue options to make it sound more like something The Courier would say - The Lone Wanderer and The Courier are pretty different, dialogue-wise, and The Lone Courier makes your character's dialogue options much more consistent. There are a few mods available that connect the seams between the two games, so to speak. Vurt's Flora Overhaul is available, too - again, Google "Tale of Two Wastelands Flora Overhaul". If you're looking to use NMC's Texture Pack, there's a version (or a tutorial, anyway) available on the TTW forums - just Google "Tale of Two Wastelands NMC". Most Fallout: New Vegas mods are compatible with Tale of Two Wastelands, and if they aren't, most won't outright break them.
